— The Big Picture —

When you close your eyes and dream about your perfect High Country wedding day, what do you see? Indoors or out? Do you have a specific venue in mind? Is it candle lit or in the middle of the day? Are you surrounding by everyone you’ve ever met, or is it close friends and family only? Are you planning on staying close to home for a Charlotte Wedding or are you dreaming of a destination wedding? Take some time to run wild with your imagination and dream up a big dream. You can always whittle it down to the ‘must haves’ as you go.

— Priorities —

Do you have a venue that you absolutely must have? Maybe you’ve seen a certain photographers work and you’ve got to have them. Or maybe, you know that it just wouldn’t be your wedding day without peonies blooming on every table. Whatever your priorities are, write those down and make your date (and budget) selections based on these top priorities.

Now, you’ve got a basic idea of what you want your wedding to look like and what your top priorities are. Go ahead and book those top priority vendors and then start filling in the gaps of what’s missing. Maybe your venue was a top priority but it ended up being more than you expected, you can shave money off other aspects of your wedding day that aren’t as important to you (like foregoing guest favors or maybe don’t have an open bar?). There are tons of ways to save money without skimping on the things that are most important to you.

From this past bride to you, let me tell you what I regretted skimping money on the most.

  1. My photography. My photographer was the sweetest girl in the universe but she was not a wedding photographer, she was a studio portrait photographer. Don’t make my mistake.
  2. My videography. A friend of my Dad’s took a video of the ceremony and that was it. You can’t hear anything in the video and he keeps moving the camera to focus on random guests instead of me and my husband. Do. Not. Make. This. Mistake. I cannot tell you how much it pains me that I don’t have a wedding video to watch on our anniversary or with our kids. If I could go back and change anything, I would rather have spent money on this and kept the same photographer.

I know I’m a photographer, so I’m a bit biased, but when you get back from your honeymoon and realize that all those months of planning the perfect font for your invitation suite are over, you’ll realize that the only thing you have left to remember your wedding day are your photos, your wedding dress, and your memories (and your hubs of course!). 10 years from now your memories may be a little hazy and your dress probably won’t fit but those photos (and video!) will bring it all back. Don’t skimp on the memories, friends.
